“Team Jeremiah or team Conrad?” is a question that has been asked and debated on social media, between friends and even at JDS Kabbalat Shabbat. To decide the answer to the question everyone’s been asking, I strongly recommend snuggling up with a blanket, grabbing some popcorn and watching the third season of “The Summer I Turned Pretty,” to decide who Belly, the main character of the show, should end up with.
Overall I really enjoyed the show and I strongly recommend watching all three seasons. I think the third season is the best one, as viewers have seen a lot more character development and are invested in the lives of the characters. While the acting is not incredible, the actors do a great job at making one care about their characters.
According to Slate, when the third and final season of the Summer I Turned Pretty premiered on Amazon Prime Video on July 16, it attracted over 25 million viewers globally within its first week. This is triple the viewership of its first season, and the show is now the most popular TV show online, as of Sep. 17, according to Television Stats.
Part of the reason the third season has been so popular and anticipated was due to the end of the second season. The second season ends with Belly dating Jeremiah, the younger brother, but still seeming to have unresolved feelings about Conrad, the older brother, whom she previously dated in season one. In season three, Belly is further conflicted between the two brothers and between many dramatic and heartwarming scenes, the third season is definitely one to watch.
My favorite episode this season was episode five, as it started to show a different side of Conrad, while also focusing on a new opportunity for Steven, Belly’s older brother. I particularly enjoyed getting to see more of Conrad and Belly’s interactions, as they are my favorite characters and viewers did not see a lot of their relationship in previous episodes.
My least favorite episode was the second one, as a traumatizing event happens which leads to challenges for one of the couples in the show. However, the entire season was intriguing and entertaining and I was excited to see how it would end.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” was originally a three-book series written by Jenny Han, with the third book being published in 2011. The books have now, fourteen years later, been converted into this popular series, but not without some differences between the two. Jenny Han has been involved in the creation of the show, and has told readers not to expect they know how the show will end simply based off of the books.
There have already been numerous differences between the books and the show, including added characters to the show, such as collage friends, Jeremiah’s sexuality, Taylor’s role as Belly’s best friend, the ending of the show and much more. This left many fans of the series, including myself, eager to find out what would happen in the show’s final episode.
“The Summer I Turned Pretty” has also gotten a lot of attention for its soundtrack that features many hit songs. Some of my favorites include: “HOT TO GO!” by Chappell Roan, “I like the way you kiss me” by Artemas, “Please Please Please” by Sabrina Carpenter, “Linger” by Royal Otis, “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait For Your Love)” by Ariana Grande and “I Can Do It With a Broken Heart” by Taylor Swift. These songs definitely added to the show, because viewers get a vibe of the scene from the music.
Overall, I strongly recommend season three of The Summer I Turned Pretty, and I can’t wait to see Belly’s final ending in the coming movie, releasing in the next few years, that is supposed to culminate the thrilling series.
