2025 is going to be an amazing year for music lovers, as there are various artists releasing new music pieces. Specifically, Tate McRae, Lana Del Rey, Mac Miller and The Weeknd are all coming out with brand new albums.
“So Close to What”
“So Close to What” will be Canadian pop singer Tate McRae’s third album. The album was announced on Instagram on Nov. 14, along with the 2025 global “Miss Possessive Tour,” which begins on March 18, where she will be debuting her new album live. The album, with a total of 15 songs, is scheduled to release on Feb. 21, through RCA Records.
The album is set to capture the journey of growing up and overcoming life obstacles, as well as McRae’s new confidence as an artist and passion for dance. You do not want to miss it.
McRae is a dancer, singer and songwriter whose most recent album, “Think Later,” was a huge hit, with the album’s most popular song, “greedy,” peaking at number one on both the Billboard Global 200 and Canadian Hot 100.
Preceding the announcement of “So Close to What,” McRae released the lead single “It’s OK I’m OK” on Sep. 12, followed by the release of “2 Hands” on Nov. 14, drawing fans’ attention to the upcoming album. Both of these songs encapsulate a sense of self-worth and growth.
In an interview with Marie Claire, McRae said that her new music will capture her development as an artist.
“I really feel like a woman now—not just a young girl,” McRae said. “I think you can hear this in the new music. I think fans are going to get to see me as a more complex person in this next project as a result. It’s definitely my most vulnerable project yet, and I could not be more excited.”
“The Right Person Will Stay”
“The Right Person Will Stay” is the much anticipated 10th album by American singer-songwriter Lana Del Rey. Its scheduled release is on May 21 through Interscope Records and Polydor Records. The album consists of 13 tracks, with the song “Henry” being the first single pre-release. The tracks feature collaborations with various artists, such as Jack Antonoff, Zachary Dawes, Drew Erickson and Luke Laird, accompanied by an assortment of solo songs.
Del Rey has been able to connect with her fans through her timeless lyrics and poetic storytelling. Del Rey said that the upcoming album will be a departure from her usual music style and will have a different tone, embracing the world of country as well as spirituality and love.
Del Rey was named Billboard’s Visionary Award-winner in 2023 at the Women in Music event. She earned her first top 10 hit in 2013 with her single “Summertime Sadness” peaking at number six.
In addition to new music, Del Rey is set to embark on a stadium tour of the U.K. and Ireland, starting this June. She will also be making an appearance at the Stagecoach Festival in California this April, and is planning to drop more singles from her album prior to it.
“Balloonerism”
The upcoming album, “Balloonerism,” will be the second posthumous album and seventh studio album by American rapper Mac Miller, scheduled for release on Jan. 17. Miller developed the upcoming album alongside his 2014 album “Faces,” ultimately deciding not to release it in favor of his other albums. There are a total of 14 songs on the tracklist, each offering an abstract approach to life, while simultaneously embodying Miller’s discontent with his mental state.
Throughout his life, Miller battled with depression, addiction and a history of substance abuse. He died of an accidental overdose at age 26, one month after the release of his Grammy-nominated rap album “Swimming.”
The album includes features of Miller’s alter ego, Delusional Thomas, as well as a collaboration with SZA. The day of its release is the five year anniversary of the release of his first posthumous album “Circles.”
“5 Dollar Pony Rides” was recently released on Jan. 9 as the first single from this album, providing the listeners a glimpse into the upcoming release. Fans are especially excited for this album, for both the meaning embedded into the songs and as a way of remembering the late singer.
“Hurry Up Tomorrow”
“Hurry Up Tomorrow” is the upcoming sixth album by Canadian singer-songwriter Abel Tesfaye, more commonly referred to as The Weeknd. It is scheduled to release on Jan. 24, through XO and Republic Records, and consists of 10 songs.
Thus far, three singles from this album have been pre-released, which include features from American rapper Playboi Carti and Anitta. The songs in “Hurry Up Tomorrow” evoke the ideas of afterlife and rebirth. This album will be The Weeknd’s final album under this stage name, and the conclusion of his album trilogy that began with “After Hours” and “Dawn FM”.
“It’s getting to a place and a time where I’m getting ready to close the Weeknd chapter,” The Weeknd said in an interview with W Magazine.
The Weeknd initially rose to fame for his engaging blend of a catchy beat with heartfelt lyrics. Having come from a childhood of poverty, violence and homelessness, he found a sense of comfort and relief in the world of music, which eventually led to the creation of the worldwide sensation known today as The Weeknd.
This album will definitely be worth a listen, as it is the last time The Weeknd will be releasing new music under this name. However, he may continue to make music under his birth name, Abel Tesfaye.
