Lag BaOmer is day 33 of the Omer, which is the 49-day period between Passover and Shavuot. As it is a pause in the partial mourning period of the Omer, the day is supposed to be joyous and commemorate the end of the plague that killed Rabbi Akiva’s students, and it is customary to spend the day outside. As for JDS, they continued their tradition of offering outdoor field trips to celebrate the day. High school students had the opportunity to go on hikes or visit museums or memorials in Washington, D.C., with pedal boating afterward.
Once they got to the middle of the Tidal Basin in Washington, D.C, two peddle boats of sophomore girls held their crafts together so they could enjoy each other’s company while soaking in the sun. “I really liked being with my friends and getting the chance to not think about school for a while,” sophomore Noa Dvir said.
