New York’s Levain Bakery, famous for its huge six-ounce cookies, has recently opened up a new location in Georgetown. The cookies are crispy on the outside, gooey on the inside and satisfy a sweet tooth. The bakery also offers delicious bread, pastries, loaf cakes and coffee. The smell of the freshly baked cookies is reason enough to go visit.

Levain is located in the former Johnny Rockets space, right in the heart of Georgetown. The opening of the Georgetown location is very special because it is the only of their stores not located in New York. Having been to one of their New York locations, I was ecstatic when I heard that Levain was opening a bakery so close to me.

Their most famous cookie is the chocolate chip walnut cookie, which is one of the best cookies I have ever had. It has a great ratio of chocolate chips to walnuts and had a crispy exterior that compliments the doughy interior. Additionally, they offer a chocolate chip cookie without walnuts for those who are allergic or simply do not like the taste, along with a gluten free version. They also offer oatmeal raisin, dark chocolate chip and dark chocolate peanut butter chip cookies which are also very good.

Four dollars might seem like a lot of money for a cookie, but they are massive and can easily be shared. The cookies are so tasty and definitely worth the splurge. It is the perfect sweet dessert or snack to pick up if you are walking around Georgetown.

The bread and other baked goods they sell are also really delicious and taste super fresh. I brought a loaf of whole-grain bread home and it stayed fresh for a relatively long time. If you do not like super sweet or chocolatey desserts, the scones and the baguette were also very good and a super-filling snack. The hot chocolate paired very well with all of the treats I tried and was rich and creamy.

The line can be long depending on when you go. Mid-day on weekends, the line can sometimes go down the block and can be around a 30-minute wait. However, the line moves relatively quickly and they have socially distanced waiting areas and lines.

This New York delicacy lives up to the hype. I would definitely recommend making the trip out to Georgetown to give it a try. A warm cookie and hot chocolate is the perfect combination for a chilly autumn day.
