The Upper School had a school-wide assembly following Z’man Kodesh yesterday to commemorate Veterans Day.
At the assembly, freshman Evan Gerstenblith presented a video he put together of photos of U.S. soldiers and presidents taken on Veterans Day. Juniors Danielle Azachi and Jack Weitzner read the names of veterans from families in the CESJDS community.
Monday was also visiting day, so family members of students were able to visit classes and attend the assembly. Dean of Students Roslyn Landy said the school holds visiting day on Veterans Day because it is easier for visitors to get off of work on a national holiday.

“I think Veterans Day is important because a lot of times we think about all the great stuff we have, but I really think the veterans are important …. We never really think about the American veterans and they are really a key part of our country,” Weitzner said. “Veterans day is an opportunity [to welcome family members to the school] because it is meaningful to be able to celebrate Veterans Day with the people in our families that were veterans, and they can talk about their experiences. It’s an extra generational thing to have the veterans in the school on Veterans Day.”
