Two fellows of The Washington Institute, a think tank which promotes policies for peace in the Middle East, came to speak to the junior class about the Arab-Israeli conflict on April 12. The two speakers were David Makovsky, an American Jew, and Ghaith al-Omari, an Arab. Makovsky previously worked as a senior advisor for Secretary of State John Kerry and  al-Omari served as an advisor to the Palestinian Authority from 1999-2001. The two men shared their perspectives on the Arab-Israeli conflict and how America has been involved in helping with negotiations. The Lion’s Tale asked Makovsky and al-Omari how the two are able to reconcile their different backgrounds while discussing Middle Eastern politics and the future of Israel.
