Another year, another rivalry between the senior and junior girls as they faced off during the annual Powderpuff football game this past Wednesday. Many fans attended the game, including numerous senior boys who were dressed as cheerleaders.

Though the seniors defeated the juniors 21-7, the juniors were the first to score. Junior Sara Heckelman scored the first touchdown of the game after she broke through the senior’s defensive line and charged to the end zone. Heckelman does not often play organized sports, so the touchdown was especially exciting for her.

“It was awesome,” Heckelman said.

The seniors were ultimately able to secure the victory, thanks in part to senior Evie Kraner’s kickoff return for a touchdown in the second half. According to fellow senior Allie Wolf, who played quarterback for much of the game, Kraner’s exciting play gave the seniors the momentum needed to hold on to the win.

Though the game was very friendly and full of laughs, the seniors came to the game prepared.

“We actually had a pretty legitimate practice on Tuesday. We ran the girls through some drills, we taught them plays and even some trick plays,” senior coach Brian Shorr said.

But sports were not the only thing on display. Seniors Annie Rodney and Elianna Bernstein helped the senior boys prepare a dance, which has become a fun and silly Powderpuff tradition.

“It was kind of hard to teach the moves in the beginning, but it was a lot of fun, and it ended up turning out very well.” Bernstein said.

The dance concluded in the first promposal of the year, when senior Tani Makovsky surprised fellow senior Mayan Beroukhim with roses after the music ended. Beroukhim said yes, concluding another Powderpuff game free of injuries, emotional or otherwise.
