The girls varsity soccer Lions clobbered the Berman Hebrew Academy Cougars 5-1 on Monday to improve their record to 4-0 on the season.

The girls got revenge on their arch rivals after the boys varsity team lost to the Cougars 6-0 last week. The Lions led from start to finish, including a 3-0 lead at halftime.

Sophomore forward Ally Knapp opened the scoring and contributed three goals overall. Sophomore midfielder Olivia Plotnek added another before senior midfielder Brooke Cohen finished off the Cougars with a penalty shot goal after the Cougars committed a foul inside the 18-yard goal box.

The only Cougars goal came on a corner kick, which deflected off junior Lions defender Naomi Alter and into the goal. The Lions were anchored by senior goalkeeper Mira Rodney, who has started every game in goal this year.

“We had good communication, we had good passing,” Rodney said. “We were good at stopping [the Cougars] from finishing.”

The Lady Lions will look to continue their perfect season away against a challenging foe, the Washington International School at 5 p.m. tomorrow.

“We do have some tough games coming up,” Rodney said. “It’s going to challenge us a lot, so we need to prepare.”
