What to Watch For: This Week in Television

Screen Shot 2015-11-04 at 7.04.14 PMThis week there are a few shows airing their season premiere: “Elementary”, “Mom” and “MasterChef Junior”. Both “Mom” and “Elementary” air on Nov. 5 on CBS while “MasterChef Junior” premiers Nov. 6 on Fox .

“Elementary”:

Created by Robert Doherty, “Elementary” follows the excursions of Sherlock Holmes (Jonny Lee Miller) and his companion, Dr. Joan Watson (Lucy Liu), as they help the NYPD solve their toughest cases. The show has enjoyed great success, earning a 73 on Metacritic which is considered very good. This season will be the show’s fourth. a In 2012, the show was a top nominee for best new television drama at the People’s Choice Awards. If you love  shows about solving mysteries, this is the show for you.

“Mom”:

Created by Chuck Lorre, Eddie Gorodetsky and Gemma Baker, “Mom” focuses on the lives of a mother and daughter (Allison Janney and Anna Faris) as they try and reinvent themselves in Napa Valley, California after overcoming alcoholism. This will be the third season of the comedy which has also enjoyed great success. Actress Allison Janney won the Emmy for most outstanding supporting actress in a comedy series two years in a row, for each of the past seasons, and won the best performance in a comedy series at the Prism Awards for her Season two performance.

“MasterChef Junior”:

Created by chef Gordon Ramsay, “MasterChef Junior” is a cooking competition show; however, the contestants are all children. They are put through tough cooking assignments and assessed on style and taste by judges Gordon Ramsay, Graham Elliot and Christina Tosi. All of the contestants are between the ages of eight and thirteen.The winner of the show gets $100,000 and the Masterchef Junior trophy. Although the show hasn’t enjoyed widespread success it should definitely be checked out.
